My father, Ajit Jain, grew up in a small village in Rajasthan, the youngest of six children and the only son among five elder sisters. He was sixteen when his own father passed away, and providing for the family fell to him overnight. What he built over the next twenty-five years was one of India's largest CZ jewellery manufacturing businesses — not by chasing the cheapest price, but by refusing to. While the market moved toward faster and thinner, he moved the opposite way: the finest materials, the most considered design, the most exacting quality, whatever it cost.
Twenty-five years in, being the best at what already existed stopped being enough. He wanted to make jewellery nobody had dared to make before — pieces so involved, so exacting, that no manufacturer had been patient enough to attempt them. New stone-setting techniques. Custom-cut gemstones. Trips across countries to learn crafts firsthand, finishes chased until they were right. Shared with his daughter, that obsession is how Marvi was born.
